waitangi

- Waitangi is a public holiday because of it's importance too kiwis:

The treaty was an agreement signed from the maori chiefs of the north and south island, presented from the British crown. The treaty was signed on the 6th of feburary 1840 from just over 540 maori rangatira and the British.

We celebrate waitangi because of our kaha rangatira showing resilience towards getting our land kai and mana forcefully taken. This ended in a signing from over 540 maori chiefs from all over Aotearoa, which was a deal that wasn't fair nor translated properly too make sure the maori actually understood what they we're getting in exchange for the resources and full access of new zealand that they gave too the british crown.
